Children’s Wooden Toys
Wooden Toys Are Still in Fashion.
Visit any toy store or online catalog of gifts for children, and you’ll find children’s wooden toys in abundance. For many parents, their children’s wooden toys bring back a time when their parents bought them wooden toys. And for many grandparents, buying wooden toys for children lets them avoid the stress of picking the right video game or DVD.
Children’s wooden toys have never really gone out of fashion, though electronic toys and games are becoming ever more popular. One of the reasons children’s wooden toys are so popular is that they’re so simple. Whether you’re pretend-driving a wooden truck, playing checkers on a wooden board, or shooting a rubber-band gun, playing with just about any children’s wooden toys is easy and fun.
Grandparents like buying children’s wooden toys not only because they’re less confusing than electronic gifts, but also because they can play, too. Most grandmothers and grandfathers wouldn’t have a clue how to play some of the games their grandchildren play, and aren’t interested in learning. But anyone can spin a top or play with wooden trucks and wagons, or build castles with wooden blocks.
Parents love wooden toys because their parents used to buy children’s wooden toys for them. They may not have appreciated the toys at the time, because electronic gadgets were new and exciting, and wooden toys seemed boring and old-fashioned. But those same parents now remember having children’s wooden toys, and their memories are fond, even if they never played with the toys back then.
Best of all, children love receiving wooden toys because they’re different. These days, DVDs and game consoles and computers and the Internet are an everyday thing. children’s wooden toys are something out of the ordinary. Give a boy a wooden slingshot or a girl a wooden jumping doll, and watch them spend hours playing with their new wooden childrens toys. They literally can’t get enough of these unique toys, even though they don’t beep, buzz or click.
In fact, it is largely because children’s wooden toys don’t make any noises or do anything on their own, that they’re so popular. Kids love their electronic gadgets, but they also enjoy using their imaginations and playing make-believe from scratch. Children’s wooden toys let them do that to a degree that electronic games and interactive toys do not.
When you’re shopping for children’s wooden toys, let your own imagination go. Think about how your favorite kids will like playing checkers on a real wooden board, riding a wooden rocking horse, or playing with a wooden jumping doll toy. Imagine their faces when they realize that they get to put the life into their toy, and the pleasure they’ll have from making games up from scratch and playing with children’s wooden toys.
Also, think about particular children’s wooden toys that you enjoyed as a child, and consider buying a toy just like your favorite wooden toy. Write a note, or talk to your kids, about how you played with a toy just like this and your favorite parts of playing with that toy. You can use children’s wooden toys not only as gifts, but as an opportunity to grow closer to the children in your life.
